Self-care is all about taking care and being good and compassionate to yourself as you would be to others by doing things that make you feel good about yourself, knowing when to step back and replenish when you notice your resources and energy are running low.
From increased productivity, better physical health, improved immune system, knowing yourself better to having more to give others, the benefits of self-care have been proven endlessly.
Here are some of the different ways these trailblazers practice self-care
- Nataliey Bitature (Gratitude)
“I always note down the things that I am grateful for on a daily basis. It is a good thing to remind yourself about the things that you are grateful for. Mostly, I am grateful for the different people that I work and interact with every day. I would not be able to do several things that I do if it was not for these people. Being mindful of this has not only made me humble but caused me to be more aware and not take it for granted.” - Winnie Byanyima (Pottering)
“Nothing refreshes me, uplifts my spirit more than pottering in my garden. Three days in Kasangati (aka Benghazi), I’m fresh and ready to get back to work.” - Evelyn Namara (Exercise)
“I run 2 days a week, I’m in the gym the remaining 3 days and I wind it down every Saturday with a great yoga session. It’s a lifestyle choice.”
Please note that different self-care practices suit different people, so it’s important that you find out and cultivate what works for you.
