Ugandan Climate change activist Vanessa Nakate was awarded the Next Generation Award at the 12th annual DVF Awards held in Paris on Wednesday night.
The DVF Awards, conceived by Belgian fashion designer, Diane Von Furstenberg, honours women who have had the courage to fight, the power to survive, and the leadership to inspire.
Vanessa was recognized for her role in campaigning against the harrowing effects of climate change and amplifying the work of African activists. She received a $50,000 grant.
“So honored to receive the DVF award. This grant for my Green Schools project will help thousands of children study when it is dark and eat meals from stoves that do not pollute the air they breathe. This is what #ClimateJustice looks like!” she said.
Other recipients of this year’s prestigious DVF Awards (honorees) are: American businesswoman and philanthropist, Melinda French Gates; CNN’s chief international correspondent, Clarissa Ward; Syrian-Lebanese economist and activist, Dr. Rouba Mhaissen; and Burmese human rights activist, Wai Wai Nu.
