The Digital Equality Awards 2021 was held in a virtual ceremony that took place on Wednesday July 21, 2021 that saw three Ugandan women awarded.
Organized by Coalition for Digital Equality (CODE), the network that connects local and global stakeholders to collaborate and address the digital gender divide and drive sustainable economic growth in Africa, the inaugural awards recognised and awarded individuals in Ghana and Uganda who are building the human capital and talent pool needed to drive digital transformation and innovation in Africa.
Sherifah Tumusiime won the Women Entrepreneurship and Investment Champion award, Neema Iyer, was awarded Research and Knowledge Builder award, while Syamukehere Rosette, bagged the Digital Skills Champion award.
Syamukehere Rosette is the founder of Hope for Young Mothers, a women-led, volunteer-run organisation that works to identify income generating activities for young mothers, and offers vocational and life skills training for out of school girls.
Neema Iyer is the founder of Pollicy, a technology consulting and development firm aimed at improving government service delivery through improved civic engagement and participation.
Sherifah Tumusiime is the co-founder of Zimba Women, an organization that provides tools and technology platforms, business training, mentor-ship and networks to improve the livelihoods for women in sub-Saharan Africa.
The aim of the awards is to acknowledge individuals, who are enabling digital skills, innovation and knowledge to improve the lives of African women, youth, marginalised groups and communities.
