People’s Choice Awards 2022: Uganda’s Angella Summer Namubiru, Selena Gomez Among Winners

The much anticipated 2022 People’s Choice awards took place on Monday, November 6, in a televised ceremony on NBC and E! that aired live from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

Hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson, the 48th edition of the annual awards show celebrates the best in Television, Film, Music and Pop Culture. Among the 2022 winners include Selena Gomez, Chris Hemsworth, Ryan Reynolds, Shania Twain and Uganda’s Angella Summer Namubiru who was announced the winner of the African Social Star award before the televised ceremony.

The model and digital content creator who had been pitted against Ama Qamata, Dr Shauwn Mkhize, Juddy da Conceição, Khanyi Mbau, Liquorose, Sphokuhle, and Swanky Jerry for the coveted award, became the first Ugandan ever to achieve this milestone.

A former member of the music group City Rock Entertainment, Angella Summer Namubiru is popular for her social media videos that debunk harmful stereotypes about Uganda and Africa.
