IAMNATIV, an online marketplace that connects African media professionals with global media buyers, has announced the shortlisted candidates for its NATIV Shorts Creatives Competition 2023.
The competition invited filmmakers from East and West Africa to submit a 30-second film on “what it means to be an African creative today”. The 11 selected candidates, hailing from Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, and Gambia, have been assigned a mentor with global media experience to produce a 1-minute film. The three winners, chosen by a jury and votes from social media, will receive cash prizes, a remote internship with an international production house, experience on a NATIV production, and filmmaking gear.
Caroline Kamya, co-founder of IAMNATIV, stated that the competition was prompted by the rising global influence and demand for African TV and film content. “IAMNATIV is at the forefront of the movement to accelerate, support, and celebrate our own filmmakers. The NATIV Shorts Creatives Competition 2023 is just the start of this. We’re excited to see the final submissions from our shortlisted filmmakers,” said Kamya.
The winners of the competition will be announced on May 30 on IAMNATIV‘s website and social media channels.
