After dedicating 15 years to the banking sector, Shamirah Kimbugwe was inspired to start Uganda’s first female founded fintech company, PivotPay in 2029.
The tech-entrepreneur says the need for a seamless, cross-border financial platform and efficient treasury management system for multiple currencies across different countries fuelled her vision.
PivotPay is operating in several African countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Southern Sudan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Tanzania. “Our goal is to build homegrown solutions that cater to the unique needs of the African market.”
Shamirah’s inspiration to look beyond the Ugandan market stems from her vision of Africa as one block, one market.
“If we limit ourselves to Uganda alone, the dream of creating a Pan-African brand remains unfulfilled,” she explains. “We aim to be a bridge, enabling businesses in Uganda to access other African markets and vice versa.”
