GLIM’s Nila Yasmin Shortlisted For 2019 African Women In Media Award

Nila Yasmin, a Ugandan journalist has been shortlisted for the 2019 African Women in Media Awards.

The actress and journalist who co-founded GLIM and currently works with Media 256, producers of CNN African Voices and Inside Africa, has been announced by APO Group, the leading Pan-African communications consultancy and press release distribution service in Africa and the Middle East, as one of the three journalists shortlisted to win the inaugural APO Group African Women in Media Award which recognises, celebrates and empowers African women journalists who support female entrepreneurship in Africa.

Nila is a passionate advocate for women empowerment. In 2018, she co-directed and featured in ‘Me Myself and You’ a short film that tackles personal insecurities, image and identity among young females  and was nominated in the 2019 CineChico Awards in Spain. And in 2019, she was among Uganda’s first all-female cast and crew that was behind the groundbreaking film ‘Bed of Thorns’ that tackles Gender Based Violence and urges women to speak up.

The two other finalists include Nigeria’s Aneta Felix and Kenya’s Lilian Museka.
The winning African female journalist will be bestowed with a USD 2,500 cash prize, an all-expenses paid trip to a prestigious International Women’s Forum, and online courses from one of the most respected international universities.

The winner will be announced at the 5th Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) (www.AWIEForum.org) hosted at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on 29-30 October 2019.

AWIEF is a prestigious annual event is a platform that sees global thought leaders, industry experts, policymakers, academics, development organisations and investors gather to dialogue, connect, network, share, collaborate and transact in a combined effort to boost Africa’s entrepreneurship ecosystem for women.
