Doreen Mirembe’s KAFACOH Awarded At 2022 Mashariki Africa Film Festival

Doreen Mirembe’s ‘KAFACOH’ was one of the winners of the 2022 Mashariki Africa Film Festival awards.

The Ugandan legal drama film that was premiered in October, 2022 was awarded the SIGNIS AWARD for Best FILM at the 8th edition of the prestigious film festival that took place on November 26-December 2, 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Reacting to the thrilling news, Mirembe expressed her gratitude to the festival awards organizers, crediting GOD for the film’s success. “It’s always you Lord”, she wrote on her Facebook page.

Directed by Doreen Mirembe and Gilbert Lukalia, KAFACOH explores the story of the fight for justice in the face of power. The fight hijacks a young naive lawyer, Sandrah Atika Alexis who finds herself at the center of a battleground between two political heavyweights.

The film also received a special screening at Century Cinemax Kigali, during the festival.

Held under the theme “Afro futurism”, the 2022 Mashariki Africa Film Festival celebrated cinema as a language and culture, telling stories that bring Africa as a protagonist and showing how African filmmaking is capable of showing, dreaming and courageously speaking out for the future of the continent.
