“A Period Should End A Sentence, Not A Girl’s Education”, Menstruation Film Bags An Oscar Award

Women all over the world emerged winners at the 91st Oscars Academy Awards just like the producer of “Period. End Of Sentence”, Guneet Monga, put it in her celebratory tweet , “We Won! To every girl on earth, know that you are a goddess”.
This is after the documentary about menstruation that largely remains frowned upon and looked at with disgust as something dirty and unnatural in mostly India and some parts of Africa, was recognized at the world’s biggest and most prestigious film awards on Sunday, February 24.
“Period. End Of Sentence” managed to beat “Black Sheep”, “End Game”, “Lifeboat” and “A Night At The Garden” to win the Academy Award in the category of Documentary Short Subject.
The documentary set in India, tells the story of girls making pads in one of its villages, where girls are often isolated in separate houses when menstruating and use news papers, soil, ash, among others to curb their flow.
Accepting the award, the film’s producer Guneet Monga said in a statement, “Periods are normal and in no way do they stop us from achieving anything. Every girl in India or anywhere around the world needs to know this and hear this loud and clear. Period is an end of a sentence, but not a girl’s education. Now, that we have an Oscar, let’s go change the world”.

Congratulations!
